When applying for a new passport, should the applicant
not be in possession of the new 13 digit identity documents
(i.e. ID number) then the following additional documentation
will be required:
• Full South African birth certificate
• BI-24 application form
• BI-529 application form
• Naturalization certificate
(if applicable)
Note: South African Identity Documents are not
issued to citizens abroad and may only be obtained in
South Africa..
5. Naturalised South African Citizens
Naturalised South African citizens who departed from the
Republic of South Africa prior to 6 October 1988 and who
are not in possession of a "Letter of Exemption" as issued
by the Department of Home Affairs, no longer qualify for
South African citizenship or passport facilities.
