(All the forms are available at the South African
Embassy in Madrid)

South African passports and travel documents are issued in terms of the South African Passports and Travel Documents Act, 1994 (Act No 4 of 1994). All South African passports are issued by the Department of Home Affairs in South Africa and applications take approximately 3 - 4 months. Emergency Travel Certificates may be issued by the Embassy, however, all applications require the approval of the Department of Home Affairs in Pretoria before issuance.
South African citizens still travelling on the old blue passports should note that after 31 December 1999, these passports will no longer be valid.
